Sigmetrix expands their GD&T Training portfolio to include Computer-Based GD&T Fundamentals, a Comprehensive GD&T Course and an ASME Y14.5-2018 GD&T Update Course

MCKINNEY, Texas – October 1, 2019 – Sigmetrix, global experts in GD&T and mechanical variation, announced today the availability of three new courses within their GD&T Training portfolio.

“The release of these three new training offerings are a continuation of our efforts to help build better products through mechanical variation management.  The understanding of GD&T is a key component of our goal and we will continue to release best in class products to help our customers be successful,” said James Stoddard, President of Sigmetrix. “The new online class fills a need that is difficult to do today, as more and more people find it extremely challenging to step away from their responsibilities for 2-3 days to focus entirely on expanding their technical skills. Even the longer, instructor-led comprehensive course is a step in the same direction, taking the most important items from 3 classes spanning 7 ½ days and compressing it into just 4.”

The new Computer-Based, Level 1 GD&T Fundamentals Course allows students to go through the same curriculum that we offer in an on-site, in-person setting, but at their own pace, when they have the opportunity to progress, and wherever they find most convenient. This course will offer 17 modules of different lengths through a combination of videos and slides along with quizzes and tests. The interface is very intuitive and contains all of the content in a single window. It also allows users to download courses on their mobile device and view them wherever is most convenient.

The new Comprehensive GD&T Course combines the content of the Level 1, 2, and 3 classes in a way which allows the user to easily grasp the connections intended throughout the GD&T language.  Starting with most basic concepts and rules, the class works through the GD&T language and its application from a functional, user-friendly standpoint.  The content is arranged with a focus on maintaining the communication of functional intent captured in engineering documentation between Designers, Manufacturing Engineers, Machinists, Quality Engineers, Inspectors, and Supply Chain personnel.

The ASME Y14.5-2018 GD&T Update Course highlights the most significant changes in the 2018 Standard and provides answers on questions about new, changed, and deleted content as compared to the previous revision (ASME Y14.5-2009). It is recommended for design, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, process and project engineers, CAD specialists, and inspectors.

“Many of our customer and website inquiries ask for computer-based GD&T Training.  GD&T isn’t addressed sufficiently in many Mechanical Engineering university programs, so there is usually a knowledge gap for MEs. Though we recognize that the topic is complex, and often better taught in person, we wanted to develop a course to meet the demand of the market,” stated Stephen Werst, Director of Customer Success & Product at Sigmetrix. “With much of the recent industry focus on transforming towards Model-Based Enterprise (MBE), there has been an increase of companies wanting to train their design teams to apply GD&T properly.”

Sigmetrix is a global leader in providing precise, easy-to-use mechanical variation analysis and geometric tolerance authoring software. Companies worldwide are transitioning to become Model-Based Enterprises where all the important product design information is captured within the CAD data files via Model-Based Definition. GD&T education, and the correct application of it to design models, is an integral part of moving towards becoming a Model-Based Enterprise.
